Cultural heritage sitesBirthplace of Brother KlausThe house where Brother Klaus was born has an interesting history behind it. Built in the late Middle Ages, it was converted into a two-family home in 1425. That ground plan remains the same today.Because of foundation fragments found in the cellar, it is believed that Saint Nicholas of Flüe was born here in 1417.The house belonged to his descendents until 1729. Then it came into the hands of strangers and was divided into three parts. In the second half of the 19th century, the Flüeli-Ranft Chapel Foundation bought the house. From 1875-1910, it served as a schoolhouse. In 1925, renovations using old wood were undertaken to restore the building to its original form. The idea was to show visitors how people lived in Brother Klaus' time. Additional restoration work done in 1999/2000 also reflects that goal. Opening hours
