Nidwaldner Museum
The Nidwaldner Museum is comprised of four parts: the salt storeroom, the Winkelried House and Fort Fürigen.
Winkelried House
Here the focus is on customs, beliefs and lifestyle. The house's chapel is devoted to the portrayal of Melchior Lussi and the Catholic Reformation. Its main floor shows how the Lussi family lived. And upstairs, visitors can get an idea of how childbirth and death were handled back in the day.
Fort Fürigen
Fort Fürigen was built in 1941/1942, in the middle of World War II. It has been a public museum since 1991. Visitors can experience how officers and soldiers once lived and worked in tiny passageways and rooms carved into the rocks. The temperature in the fort is 10-12°C year-round.
