Swiss Museum of Transport

Experience in interesting and diverse ways the development of transport and mobility by road, rail and water as well as in the air and outer space – yesterday, today and in the future.

Technical achievements enable us to be mobile and shape our lives. It is only the mental agility of tinkerers, inventors and explorers that has made people as mobile as they are today. The fascinating history of transport and its vehicles together with their socio-political effects on our culture are the key themes of the Swiss Museum of Transport.

Hans Erni Museum

Opened in 1979, the museum dedicated to Switzerland’s most popular artist (born 1909) is situated on the grounds of the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. Art and mobility make for an unusual combination, but the link is clear: they both involve communication and encounters. Some 300 works spanning seven decades document the thematic and technical facets of the ever-restless and energetic artist Hans Erni. They provide an overview of his unique work and life that is dedicated to examining contemporary, cultural, technical and ecological topics.

IMAX theater

In addition to showing typical IMAX films, the theater shows regular films on Wednesday through Sunday evenings. It's a grand experience using the biggest screen in Switzerland – especially when it's 3D!
