Benedictine and Walenpfad trails

The Benedictine trail connects the monastery in Engelberg to the convent in Maria-Rickenbach. The route is quite varied and offers a beautiful panorama of the valley and mountains.

It's a good idea to budget two days, especially if you plan to go via the Walenpfad trail.

Accommodation is available in Oberrickenbach and on Bannalp.

This trail is also suitable for children ages six and up. In Brunni there's a nice playground, and if you walk via Brunnihütte, you can splash in Lake Härzli.

Day 1, starting in Engelberg
Brunni (Ristis) – Brunnihütte – Stock – Walenalp – Eggeligrat – Oberrickenbach

Ca. 200 meters uphill, 900 meters downhill

Take the Brunni-Bahn chairlift to Brunnihütte. From there, follow the Walenpfad signs and hike over the Rosenbold to Stock.

Day 2, finishing in Niederrickenbach
Oberrickenbach – Brändlen – Mittlist Hütti – Alpboden-Brücke – Niederrickenbach

Ca. 600 meters uphill, 400 meters downhill

In Niederrickenbach there's a restaurant, pilgrim's inn, Benedictine convent and shop.
