Melchsee-Frutt
From Fruttdörfli there are six beautiful trails of varying length and difficulty. Enjoy a hike through the snowy mountain landscape and let nature’s quiet work its magic on you.
Hugschwendi Tour
You start at the church in Melchtal and go down to the Melchaa River, following it toward Tummlibach - Flüemätteli until you reach the main street. Then you cross the river and follow the hiking trail toward Balmatt-Untersteiglen until the parking lot and finally to the post office and Stöckalp’s train station – the highest point of this tour. Here you can enjoy a well-deserved snack before heading back to where you started. The trail leads you toward Hugschwendi hydro-electric power plant and then right over the river to Alp Waldmatt-Eglibrunnen-Oberhusen. You continue toward the main street and back to Melchtal.

Storeggpass Tour
Behind Melchtal’s convent you head southwest toward Walsli and on to Stocklaui up to the Alpstrasse leading to Rütialp. From here you follow the snowy Alpstrasse to Schwandholz and Hinter- and Vorder-Stalden. From Denalp you head up Storeggpass – a worthwhile climb. After that you head back down to Alp Vorderstalden. Then you follow the street back to Hinterstalden, where you take a right and leave the street to get back down to the village of Melchtal.

Wildi Loop Tour
From Fruttdörfli you head down to the snow-covered Lake Melch. Around the cross-country track it’s a slight climb to Lake Tann’s dam and onward to Tannalp. Then you head south along the long ridge of Erzegg. The upward climb rewards you with wonderful views of Gental and of the Bernese Alps. Shortly before the station where the Erzegg ski lift changes direction, you can choose your snowy path back down to Lake Melch and Fruttdörfli.

Bonistock Loop Tour
From Fruttdörfli you head toward the dam and Lake Tannen. When you reach the dam you turn left, heading north up to the Chringen Pass – which is the lowest point between Bonistock and Hohmad as well as the highest point of the tour. There are usually big snowdrifts to conquer, so do be careful! You continue toward Bonistock, where you’ll find a wonderful panoramic view. Retrace your steps to get back to Melchsee-Frutt.

Hohmad Tour
From Fruttdörfli you head east up to Bonistock. From Berghotel Bonistock you follow the ridge eastbound to the Chringen Pass. From there you have several good ways to get up to Hohmad. From Hohmad’s wonderful round peak you can continue on up to Chli-Hohmad – the end of the line! When you’re ready to head back, you can go via Bonistock and on to Melchsee-Frutt, or via Chringenpass over the snowdrifts back to Lake Tannen and on to Fruttdörfli.

Fikengrat Tour
From Fruttdörfli it’s a gentle descent to Lake Melch and then toward the dam and on to Lake Tannen and Tannalp. From here you can see your destination and decide how you want to approach it. Soon you leave the last huts in Vogelbüel behind you as you get closer to the prominent peak of the Fiken ridge. The rolling terrain gives you a number of options for your climb up to Fiken ridge, to the left of the peak of Mt. Graustock. As you get close to the ridge you'll find the entrance to the mysterious Fikenloch cave. To get back to Tannalp, simply retrace your steps.
